Core training is the basic preparation for Godly Play leaders (storytellers and door persons). The Core training is retreat style and is at least 18 hours. Core trainings can be arranged for specific groups, or open to the public. Those that are open to the public will be published on the Godly Play Foundation website and on this website.

Core Training

Core Training includes a full session of Godly Play; plenaries on the subject of “Spirit of the Child”, “The Environment”, and “Supporting the Circle of Children”; stories from each genre presented by the trainer and time for participants to practice the art of oral storytelling and present lessons to one another. There will be time for questions and discussions of the method. Planning a Core Training requires the trainer to meet with the organizer for an initial consultation and a post-training follow-up. Fees involved range from $1,500-$2,500, depending on number of participants and trainer costs.

Commuter Core Training

These are offered yearly in the Bay Area and consist of 3 full Saturdays. Commuter Core Training makes Core training possible for people with busy schedules. All the content of a Core training is provided. (In Person, $375)

Advanced Training

This training is designed for those who have attended Core Training and have several years of experience with Godly Play. It provides opportunities to go deeper into the methodology of Godly Play. The training includes a full session of Godly Play; experimentation with side-by-side lesson presentations and case studies. There are three plenaries facilitated by the trainer- “The Spiral Curriculum”, “Spirit of the Child” and “Nurturing the Nurturers”. (In person, commuter model-3 Saturdays or 3 consecutive days, $375)

Godly Play Basic Training

Sometimes, a church needs a training module that can help them start a ministry year, or integrate new volunteers, or get a refresher for Godly Play. This sort of training covers some of the Core training content, but focuses on the needs of a particular community. (Usually 9 hours total, sometimes the schedule looks like a Friday evening session for the whole church to experience a Godly Play presentation and a full day Saturday $500 (One day only) -$750 (both days), travel costs would be additional)
